Speakonomics! ™ Consulting and Coaching

Four senior executives are invited to speak during lunch at an industry conference. Speaker #1 thanks everyone for having him, reads his lengthy CV with his many credentials, and his 15 minutes are up before he says anything of value.

Speakers #2 and #3 begin the same way, then one goes off on a tangent topic and the other becomes a professor, “explaining” to a knowledgeable audience what they already know.

“It was the wild, wild west,” speaker #4 begins. Everyone’s head pops up from their dessert. “Charges and counter charges were flung around, heating up the barroom-like atmosphere. People were waiting for a guy in the white hat to come in and settle things down. And he did…and that was the beginning of our industry working together for the good of us all which we’re still doing, some 20 years later.” Forks have paused in mid-air as she weaves the story from beginning to end.

Which speaker reminds you of yourself? Do you craft a creative opening that makes people look up, even from their dessert? Do you have them wondering where you’re going with this story? And then happy when they’ve arrived at the destination?

Read what Speakonomics! ™ client Jill Kerr has accomplished:

“Today went well. Lots of very positive comments from the attendees after the presentation. It wasn’t perfect but many people said it was leagues above the presentations they typically see.
Best part was at the end of the lunch, the president of the company who was hosting the meeting rushed over to me and told me what a great presentation it was and that he wanted to pay for membership for all his several dozen members/partners who were attending the event.
So thanks for your help. I greatly appreciate it. Still lots of work to do but a good day all in all.”

Coaching is teaching that leads to transformation

“We might possess every technological resource…but if our language is inadequate our vision remains formless, our thinking and feeling is running in the old cycles; our process may be “revolutionary” but not transformative.”-Adrienne Rich
